Protecting the heritage features and significant sites around the beach:
the Republican bunker from the Spanish Civil War, the cave where
King James I of Catalonia is supposed to have taken refuge in
the middle ages, the drystone hut, the base of a 16th-century

beach.

WHAT DO WE WANT FROM THE AUTHORITIES?
We would ask them all to be sensitive to the need to preserve this natural area.
and in particular we ask
> The Ministry of the Environment:
__ 1.
To
scrap the existing Coastal Plans (Promenade along the Platja Llarga and coastal path
to Punta de la Móra),
__ reassigning the budgets to an "ecological plan"
__
conceived,
drawn up and maintained by a multi-disciplinary team of experts,
to
__
preserve the landscape features and ecosystems of the spot.
__
2.
To purchase or help to purchase the buildable land in order to
preserve it.
> The Autonomous Government of Catalonia:
__
1.
To expand the Tamarit-Punta de la Móra listed Area of Natural Interest to cover the Platja Llarga
__
and
the hill of Mas Rabassa, in view of the fact that there are enough species of native flora
__
to justify this.
__
2.
To purchase or help to purchase the buildable land in order to
preserve it.
__
3.
Not to accept the city council's appeals aimed at going ahead with the residential development planned
for the
__ hill of Mas
Rabassa and keep up the idea of protecting it as envisaged in the Coastal Master Plan.
__
4.
To set up
a PARC NATURAL DE LES TERRES DEL GAIĄ to preserve the basin of the river Gaią
__
and
the stretch of coastline associated with it, which includes the Platja Llarga. This territory
is the only biological
__
connector between the Mediterranean coastal region and the Pyrenees
in Tarragona province.
Tarragona City Council:
__ 1.
To scrap the planned residential development and, in view of the area's ecological and landscape value,
__
to alter the classification of the site so that it is no longer building land.
__
2.
To support us in our demands from the other tiers of government.
